Cindi Gatewood is walking with Alyssa's Angels on October 22, 2006 in Irvine, CA.
Hello Friends and family! As most of you know Alyssa was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes September 2006. It is NOT something she will outgrow or go away. She will deal with this her enitire life. This has been a very emotional time for us. She get 5 shots a day of insulin and we check her blood sugars 5 or more times a day depending on how she looks and feels. Alyssa seems to be just so brave with it all. It is a contstant battle of highs and lows. Its not just no sugar. At the moment she is on a strict diet. She eats at specific times and can have so much. I can't express the heartache everytime I have to prick her finger or give her her shot. I worry at night when she sleeps that she go low. So I check her blood sugar in the middle of the night as well.
This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $90 million.
