Parrot Heads Of The Triad is walking with Parrot Heads of the Triad on September 26, 2009 in Greensboro, NC.
I want you to meet Riley. On July 10, 2008, just two days after her second birthday Riley was diagnosed Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes - which means she will be insulin-dependent for the rest of her life. Controlling this disease requires 24/7 monitoring. It includes eating a calculated diet, checking blood glucose levels 6-8 times a day and insulin injections just to stay alive. To date, she has had her fingers pricked 2,140 times. Riley's parents used to worry about cuts, bruises and playground falls. Today they worry about what could be devastating complications associated with Type 1 diabetes - blindness, nerve damage, amputation, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and early death. Riley will NOT outgrow this disease. Her need for insulin will NOT decrease with age. The only remedy is a cure.
This year The Parrot Heads of the Triad are supporting the Piedmont Triad Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) because of their unwavering commitment to finding a cure for Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes that has robbed so many children of their childhood.
On July 25, 2009 the Parrot Heads will host their annual charity event a Slice of Island Life (SOIL) along with The American Legion Riders Post 55 Poker Run for a Cure. If you cannot attend, there is still a way you can be a part of this great cause. Click on the donate now button and make your tax-deductable donation to JDRF. Every dollar we raise brings us one step closer to the cure. We are committed to making sure no child, parent or grandparent experiences the pain and devastation of hearing "You have Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes".
I have felt that devastation as Riley is my granddaughter.
Sincerely, Chris Clark Chairperson-Slice of Island Life Parrot Heads of the Triad
