Megann Heath is walking with Heath Family on September 12, 2009 in Idaho Falls, ID.
Hello!
My daughter, Lainey, is 3 years old and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on February 22, 2007, just shortly after her first birthday. This year, our family will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $105 million.
Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children. Together we can fight this. Together we don't have to sit back and do nothing. Together we can do more than just accept this disease.
Walk to Cure Diabetes is our way of fighting back. We are so close to a cure. Finding a cure has always been and will always be twofold: 1) We need to educate and 2) We need to fund research. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure within Lainey's lifetime--with the help of people like you.
I know everybody has different economic situations. There are those of you who would donate if you could, but the money just isn't there. I completely understand this. If you can't help with funding, you can help with educating. You can direct people to the JDRF website or to Lainey's blog. Help me educate more people about type 1 diabetes. If you can help with funding, please donate what you can. It doesn't have to be a lot; $5 is acceptable. Any dollar amount will help us reach our goal. Through funding and educating, we CAN make a difference for Lainey and all the other kids affected by this disease.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Together, we can make the cure a reality! For more information please visit http://welivewithdiabetes.blogspot.com/
Thanks for your support, Megann
