Amanda Criner is walking with PricewaterhouseCoopers on October 4, 2009 in Chicago, IL.
Hi friends,
I'm walking for the JDRF Walk for a Cure for Diabetes for myself and for the many other people living with diabetes.
My diabetes doesn't stop me from much - I ran the Soldier Field 10-Miler last May and biked 46 miles this weekend. I'm hoping to do a triathlon in 2010, I'm keeping up my running, going to school and living a happy, wonderful life.
I also wear an insulin pod that delivers insulin to me all day and a new continuous glucose monitor which checks my levels more than 200 times a day. All this is very handy, very advanced and also shows me how much diabetes does to my body.
Every single thing I eat affects my blood sugar. Every walk, jog, or bike ride I take affects my blood sugar. My mood, attitude, self-esteem and productivity are all linked to my blood sugar being where it ought to be. And it's a lot of work.
I'm happy to work hard to keep myself healthy. In the last year I've had more than a dozen doctor appointments. I'm a lucky diabetic with amazing resources and support -- I'm walking so other people can have access to such great care and so that someday no one needs it.
If you can give to my walk I promise to bike, run, or walk a mile for every $1 you give. I promise a full report on how I earn your dollars, too.
I feel incredibly proud to have friends so generous and caring. Thank you!
