Soil Event is walking with Parrot Heads of the Triad on October 23, 2010 in Winston-Salem, NC.
Hello! This year, the Parrot Heads of the Triad will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $90 million.
Each year 15,000 children are diagnosed with diabetes in the U.S. Thats 40 a day. My two year old granddaughter Riley was one of those 40 children diagnosed on July 10, 2008. Diabetes is devastating, life threatening and doesn't go away. Controlling this disease requires 24/7 monitoring. It includes eating a calculating diet, checking blood glucose levels 6-8 times a day and insulin injections just to stay alive. There are devastating complications associated with Type 1 diabetes - blindness, nerve damage, amputation, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and early death.
On July 10th 2010 the Parrot Heads of the Triad held their 11th annual charity event a Slice of Island Life to benefit JDRF. This was a huge success but we are not done!
Walk day is Oct 23rd 2010. By clicking the DONATE NOW button your tax deductable donation will help JDRF continue the research needed to find a cure for juvenile diabetes. Help us end the pain and devastation men, women and children go through living with this disease. Juvenile diabetes has changed Riley's childhood. But it cannot take away our hopes and dreams for a cure. Together, we can make that dream a reality.
Thank you, Chris Clark Parrot Heads of the Triad Slice of Island Life Committee
