Susan Fisher is walking on October 20, 2007 in San Francisco, CA.
Hello! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $90 million.
Type I diabetes is a devastating disease that ravages every organ system of the body. After 20+ years living a relatively normal life as a diabetic, I started to notice the complications of diabetes. In my case, my primary complication is gastroparesis, or paralysis of the stomach. I haven't felt hungry in over a year! Due to the effects of diabetes, I had a pancreas transplant on 2/9/07 and can now count myself among the lucky "diabetics on vacation." A transplant is not a cure!
We desperately need a true cure for type I diabetes. Please pitch in - join me in the walk or donate a few bucks - help make my dream of a true cure for diabetes a reality!
