On July 25th 2007 my families life took a dramatic and devastating turn when my youngest daughter Presley was Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Because of this I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $100 million.

Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of peoplea large and growing percentage of them children. Type 1 diabetes, isn't something Presley will outgrow. It doesn't keep her from eating sweet, or something she can control with a pill. It means her life must be micro managed, it means Presley doesn't know what it's like to just be a "normal" kid, a kid without a care in the world. Her life will no longer be care free. Her life is a balancing act of activity, food intake and insulin injections.

There is some good news, though. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within Presley's lifetime!

Now, more than ever, YOU can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can let our children know what it's like to live care free again, or for some like Presley.. for the first time!!

Stephenie Ellis 06/06/2008 I want to support you and Katie both, so I decided to give you each equal donations, but I felt like $5.00 is just too meager, so here's $20 more! PS What does it mean when it asks "Is this donation eligible for a Matching Gift?" I haven't been checking the box because I don't know what it means.

Hal Lamb 12/02/2008 Hi Khoranoff Family, As a local JDRF Board Member, Walk Committee Member, and a dad, Id like to offer my thanks and a bit of support to your new team. My eight year old son, Jake, was diagnosed at about the same age as Presley and, while it certainly hasnt always been easy, diabetes hasnt slowed him down a bit. Jakes team has had fun with all 7 Walks since Jake was diagnosed and I feel each one has put us that much closer to the day we all wont need to walk anymore.
