Hello! I'm Sydney and I'm 5 years old. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on Feb. 25, 2008. Finding a cure for my diabetes is very important to me because I don't like having to get poked all the time. It hurts me. It scares me to have diabetes. I really want to find a cure. This year I'm going to Walk to Cure Diabetes again. Please help me reach my goal.

After Sydney was diagnosed, naturally, we were devastated. My little girl has a disease that will affect her for the rest of her life and has the potential to claim her life. My heart was broken. After a couple months of just going through the motions, it dawned on me one day that we should be lucky Sydney only has Type 1 Diabetes. It could be so much worse. It was then I also realized we can fight this. We don't have to sit back and do nothing and just deal with diabetes. We can do more than just accept the pain and tears.
Walking for a cure is our way of fighting back against "the beast." We are so close to a cure. Finding a cure has always been and will always be two fold: 1) We need to educate 2) We need to fund research.
I know everybody has different economic situations. There are those of you who would donate if you could, but the money just isn't there. I completely understand this. If you can't help with the funding, you can help with the educating. You can direct people to the JDRF website or to my blog. Help me educate more people about Type 1 diabetes. Maybe you know someone who you can educate and who might be able to spare a few dollars to help us reach our goal. Through funding and educating, we CAN make a difference for Sydney and all the other kids affected by this horrible disease. It takes a team to find a cure. Please be part of our team!
For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within Sydney's lifetime--with the help of people like you.
