Ann Marie Anderson is walking with Team Reagan on April 10, 2010 in Jacksonville , FL.
Greetings!
As many of you know, my daughter Reagan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in October 2008 when she was only 3 years old. Reagan endures at least 4 insulin shots and anywhere from 5 to 7 blood sugar checks daily. In August of 2009 Reagan started Pre-K and is attending at her big brother's school here in Jacksonville. Along with learning to become comfortable in a new environment like school, she has also had to learn to administer her own insulin shots while she is there. I find this extraordinary for a 4 year old.
For those of you who know Reagan know that she is an amazing little girl with a very strong spirit. She has an enormous love for life and the biggest heart you could imagine. She may be only 4 years old and love to sing, dance and pretend that she's a fairytale princess and that her prince is Tim Tebow, but she's still my little girl living with diabetes. She's someone I constantly worry about and can't imagine the future life struggles she may have to endure because of this disease.
Every once in a while Reagan will ask me why God chose her to have diabetes. When she first asked me that question I honestly didn't know what to tell her. I was caught off guard by my 4 year old. However after a moment I told her that God knows how special she is, how strong she is and that He knows that she will live a long and healthy life. I told her that maybe God hopes that when she grows up that she will be able to help other children who live with the disease. That one day she may be part of a cure.
Team Reagan is our small way of trying to make that happen. For that day Reagan sees she is not alone. That she is not different but that she is a part of something that will hopefully bring a cure of this disease. This will be our second year in joining the JDRF in the Walk to Cure Diabetes. The walk will be held on April 10, 2010 at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. We hope that many of our family and friends will be able to join us that day to help support the JDRF in raising money for diabetes research.
Thank you, Ann Marie Anderson Team Reagan
